2009 Geothermal Energy Expo

Pratt & Whitney Power Systems, in conjunction with Chena Power LLC in Alaska and the U.S. Department of Energy, shows the mobile units for geothermal power generation on Geothermal Energy Expo 2009 in Reno, Nev Pratt & Whitney is a United Technologies Corp. (NYSE: UTX) company.

“The new mobile version of the Pratt & Whitney PureCycle ® technology allows customers to relocate the valuable ability to generate energy from waste a geothermal heat or resources as other circumstances dictate,” said John Fox, director, Pratt & Whitney Power Systems. “This project builds on successful public-private partnerships that exist between Chena Power, Pratt & Whitney and the Department of Energy.”

Originally designed for the oil and gas industry, PureCycle system can produce electricity from various sources of heat with temperatures between 190 and 325 degrees Fahrenheit. Using a mobile unit on the oil and gas sites that can accelerate the return on investment for geothermal energy, because most of the cost of development in exploration, drilling and infrastructure.

Geothermal Energy Expo 2009 is the second stop on the tour that will end the demonstrations on oil and gas fields in Florida, which is owned by Quantum Resource Management, LLC. There, the unit will go into operational service the oil and gas operating environment, further demonstrate the value of base load renewable energy.

The project takes on the benefits PureCycle existing systems including the use of high volume manufacturing with short lead times, low temperatures and modular installation capabilities to meet customer needs. New features are self-contained cooling systems that use water resources to fill water cooling tower, thus eliminating the need for a separate source of fresh water. The innovative system shows how geothermal technology can lower the temperature to diversify the national energy supply base load renewable energy while creating jobs and economic benefits.

Pratt & Whitney is a world leader in the design, manufacture and service of aircraft engines, space propulsion systems and industrial gas turbines. United Technologies, based in Hartford, Conn., is a company that provides various high-technology products and services the global aerospace and commercial building industries.
